Invitation

Dear fellow Veterinary Students

On behalf of the Symposium Committee for 2011, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to attend the 13th International Symposium on Wildlife Utilization (ISWU) in Southern Africa hosted in 2011. The ISWU is hosted by the Symposium Committee (SYMCO) as a biannual event dealing with the veterinary involvement in wildlife management. It serves as a platform for leading speakers, both local and international, in the fields of Veterinary and Natural Science, to address veterinary students on a host of wildlife topics pertaining to the role of the veterinarian in wildlife utilization. Because of the clash with the FIFA World Cup, being hosted by South Africa in 2010, the symposium is being held next in 2011.

As in previous years, SYMCO 2011 will be held at the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria, Republic of South Africa. Pretoria is situated in the province of Gauteng and is the seat of the South African Government. This makes it an ideal gateway to the rest of Southern Africa.

Delegates can expect an action-packed two weeks filled with talks, game viewing and field trips. The highlights of the trip include visiting the world-renowned Kruger National Park and Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve. There will be numerous opportunities for students to get hands-on experience with our African wildlife.

In order to provide the best facilities and venues we have to limit the number of delegates to approximately 60 international and 10 local students. Applications are open to all veterinary students worldwide.

SYMCO 2011 will be a never-to-be-repeated experience, an opportunity to make new friends, have lots of fun and have an unforgettable African adventure. We look forward to receiving your application, and sharing our unique and wonderful wildlife with you.

Salani kahle (Stay well)
